As a person becomes aware of all of the factors involved, the understanding of the role of Kosher Supervising agencies becomes apparent. There are certain national organizations whose role is to assure a level of compliance in the production of food items. These agencies have a community standard which is applied and they give the product or restaurant or caterer permission to utilize the agency's name only if that standard has been met.

Often these agencies have a symbol that will appear on the product. Some sites offer a listing of symbols that provide the strictest community standards. These listings cannot be comprehensive because of the numerous certifying agencies. A list will be a list of those known to the party creating the list as reliable. For example, Kosher Quest offers a list of symbols it has researched as providing the strictest community standard: www.kosherquest.org.
